The Warming World In 26 Terrifying Seconds

NASA created this video using temperature records from 1880 to 2011. It shows you the warming of the world in just 26 terrifying seconds. Blue areas indicate temperatures that are lower than the baseline average between 1951 and 1980 while yellow, orange and red areas indicate temperatures above the average.

The video shows temperatures only through 2011, which was the ninth warmest year on record at the time. 2012 is on pace to be just as warm if not warmer. NOAA announced Monday that, in the US, the summer months were the third hottest on record.

Bill Nye Says Creationism Is Not Appropriate For Kids

In a short video embedded below, Bill Nye of Science Guy fame reminds us that America is the world’s most technologically advanced country but we are also home to a uniquely large population of people who refuse to accept the fundamental scientific theory of evolution.

Nye explains that disbelief in evolution forces disbelievers to construct a wildly untenable theory of their own. If that belief is passed on to future generations, he said, America will be deprived of the scientists and engineers it needs to stay technologically competitive in the future.

Two Beaches Within Two Hours

This summer my wife and I wanted to plan fun, weekday beach excursions for the kids. Since I was only taking one day off work at a time, the beaches had to be close. I was born in California and I used to think that living as I do now near Washington, DC meant giving up easy access to the beach. But not so. We were surprised to discover two good beaches within 90 minutes drive of Washington, DC.
