I've been reading Goodnight Moon for over three years now. While it is clearly a masterpiece on par with War and Peace, certain things about the story have always bugged me. For example, at the end of the book it goes "Goodnight clocks, goodnight socks" but the socks are never actually introduced in the beginning of the book. Also, the cats seem oblivious to the fact that there is a mouse running all over the room.
Of course I should have assumed I wasn't the only one who'd read Goodnight Moon a few too many times. It turns out that the Wikipedia page on Goodnight Moon is a treasure trove of interesting trivia about everyone's favorite moon-based book.
For example, did you ever notice:
- the hands on the two clocks progress from 7 PM to 8:10 PM.
- the old lady is the only element in the room that is introduced in a black and white illustration.
- on the last page the mouse has eaten the mush.
Also, as part of intense research I did for this post, I discovered a computer-generated video version of the book. Mind officially blown.
