Celebrating the 4th at Westmoreland State Park

Published: Monday, Jul 8, 2013

For July 4th, we drove down to the northern tip of Virginia’s Northern Neck to visit Colonial Beach and stay in a cabin in Westmoreland State Park. We got super lucky to score a cabin at the last minute and for just two nights instead of the normal week required for a stay. It was a great way to start off the long weekend.

I was amazed at what Westmoreland State Park offers. Aside being a beautiful park, they have both cabins and campgrounds. They have tons of trails, a playground, a nature center and beautiful views of the Potomac. But the crown jewel is the beach and Olympic sized swimming pool on the northernmost part of the park. The beach is nothing spectacular by beach standards, but it is perfectly fine for young kids. And the pool is huge and not terribly crowded, especially when compared to Northern Virginia pools. Drivable in under two hours, Westmoreland State Park offers a great combination of fun-in-the-sun and outdoorsy adventure.

I’m looking forward to going back. Next time I’ll take more pictures.
