Rome
It’s hard to sum up Rome. We spent 5 days there, hung out with friends, saw a ton, ate and drank a ton, and generally had a blast. We rented an apartment while we were there and it was only two blocks from Campo de Fiori on Via Monserrato near the Piazza Farnese.
The first night we checked out the Piazza Navona and were sad to see famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers) by Bernini was encased in scaffolding. But we did a little more exploring and grabbed dinner right in Campo de Fiori. The next day we walked to the Vatican and checked out the Vatican Museum and St. Peter’s Basilica (helpful tip: to avoid the lines, show up in the afternoon around 2, not in the morning like most guidebooks recommend).
The next day we met up with Will and Bea at the train station and raced around Rome hitting all the major attractions: the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, and finally the Spanish Steps. We also fell in love with Will’s Joby camera tripod - I need one of those!
After our marathon tourist day with Will and Bea, we calmed things down a bit. Over the next two days we explored the Rome Museum, wandered the beautiful Borghese Gardens, and ate a ton of gelato. We did a night walk across Rome that was beautiful, although not any less crowded. Overall, we had a great time in Rome although we probably could have stayed just 4 days instead of 5.

We rented an apartment right off Campo de Fiori, which we would recommend except that our bedroom had an awful musty, moldy smell. By the end it was really bothering us. But that was really the only downside to our stay in Rome, and we didn’t spend that much time in the room anyway.
