Iguana belly flop

Jed | September 30, 2007

The pool area at our hotel in Aruba was patrolled by a variety of iguanas and lizards. I mean they were everywhere, and they weren’t afraid of people, or heights apparently.

At one point, we got to feed them, which brought them scurrying over to our location from all over. Some, who liked to warm themselves in the sun on the rocks above the fake waterfall, went so far as to leap off the rocks into the pool and swim over to us.

We gave this dive an 8.5/10.

On a side note, a few days later we were lounging by the pool with our normal cadre of iguanas nearby when a newly-arrived guest walked over to us. He was clearly impressed by the large lizard near our lounge chair and asked us - no joke - if it was our pet. I was so dumbfounded at the ridiculousness of the question that I didn’t even know how to answer. In retrospect I definitely should have answered in the affirmative and told him he could pet it, if he could catch it.

Ostrich attack

Jed |

Nicole and I decided not to stay in Aruba permanently and have made it back safely. But we do have a few videos to share of our trip, starting with a snippet of our unreal visit to the Aruba Ostrich Farm.

This is me feeding a bunch of hungry, hungry ostriches.

If you do decide to visit Aruba, there really aren’t that many big attractions, besides the amazing beaches. But regardless, the Ostrich Farm is a must see.

Imagine if everyone could get 5 trillion bucks from Google for being nuts

Jed | September 20, 2007

This guy from Pennsylvania has filed a handwritten lawsuit claiming that if you take his social security number, turn it upside down, and then scramble the numbers you get a code which spells Google.

He then draws the obvious conclusion that Google was trying to violate his civil liberties by adopting his social security number as their company name. Then he demands $5,000,000,000.00 in damages.

Seriously. That’s what he’s claiming. Check it out for yourself below:

I think my favorite part is section 4 where he wrote “WHEREFORE, plaintiff prays that a Scranton Federal Court in Pennsylvania assume jurisdiction over this matter.” If I was this guy, I’d be praying for a helluva lot more, like that they don’t lock him up in the looney bin.

Of course, that was my favorite part not including all the descriptions of his previous run-ins with the law, including being detained illegally, harassed by the Milford Cops, and spending 2 years in jail for public drunkeness.

I can’t tell if this is funny or sad.

May the Wii be with you

Jed | September 19, 2007

Lucas Arts is releasing a Wii version of their Force Unleashed game, with special features for the Wii, including Duel Mode. We’ll get to use the Wii remote as a lightsaber in head-to-head battles.

How awesome is this going to be:

LucasArts to Unleash the Force on the Wii in Spring 2008

Star Wars™: The Force Unleashed™ Coming to Nintendo’s Platform with Exclusive Duel Mode

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Sept. 18, 2007 - LucasArts today revealed that Star Wars™: The Force Unleashed™ will come to the Wii™ home videogame system from Nintendo next spring, offering owners the unique chance to live out their Jedi fantasies by wielding the Wii Remote™ as a lightsaber while using the Nunchuk™ controller to torment foes with their Force™ powers.

The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice” and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The game’s expansive story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jedi - and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.

The Wii version, in development by Krome Studios, will also add an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with their friends to determine the ultimate Jedi Master.

“The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because the console’s motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life,” said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts. “We’ve worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force.”

Read more details on the Kotaku story.

I’m guessing it won’t be long until someone mods a lightsaber toy to hold the wiimote, and presto, you really can be like Anakin, except hopefully with better dialogue.
Wii Lightsaber perhaps?

For the true dorks: IRC humor

Jed | September 17, 2007

I recently had my first IRC experience following the LifeHacker guide to modding an Xbox, and I have to say, even I was surprised at how spartan and non-intuitive IRC can be.

But IRC has been around pretty much as long as the internet, so there are tons of people on it. I’m not really sure what compels so many people to chat all day with random strangers, but hey, whatever. So as far as I can tell, many IRC denizens are seasoned net elite, but a lot of IRC users are also just script kiddies and other wannabes. This makes for some pretty amusing dialogue.

My friend at work just pointed me to the Bash.org Top 100 Quotes, which is pretty hilarious for the truly dorky out there.

My favorites so far are #240849, #328464 and #514353. What about you?
